Blending the Old and New

The invisible connecting link.

Project: To create an additional bedroom and enlarged family kitchen, dining and living space.  Careful thinking towards the connectivity and site presence of the new addition.

Features & Thinking: Much thought was given to the new structure to focus horizontal lines from the existing dwelling through to the new extension, while softening the facades by using natural materials.  Hidden gutters and enlarged barge boards are key features of the roof to echo the thatch, but with a modern twist.

By building part into the bank much of the living area is visually reduced and the development blends into the landscape.
